Lorne Balfe's score for Salinger was a bit of a pleasant surprise. The movie is a documentary on the mysterious life of the American writer J.D. Salinger, so for a documentary of this nature the last thing I was expecting was a rich, deep score. But that's exactly what you get. Once again, as with the majority of Balfe's scores, we get numerous interesting themes and set pieces (few of which are repeated to pad out the soundtrack) that make the whole album seem to last way longer than its actual running time. Personal highlights include 'Salinger' (which has a beautiful theme at its core); 'Perfect Moment'; the last minute of 'Gasoline Rainbows' (which sounded like a homage to John Barry); the wonderful build in 'Assassins'; 'VE-Day' which is a nod to John Williams's work on Saving Private Ryan; and 'Leaving Catcher' The album contains 32 tracks, representing approximately 1 hr, 16 min worth of music. So, what we have is another impressive soundtrack from Balfe that is well worth adding to your collection. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
