Dublin based Spies are an indie-rock band with one foot firmly planted in the '80s. The most obvious inspiration are The Smiths. It's surprising to discover that the band members are only in their early 20s. There's a maturity that oozes from this release that makes it sound like the product of a band with a lot more years under their belt. Single 'Distant Shorelines' is a retro track with confident vocals. The "b" side, 'Mint and Lime', is just as worthy of your time as the title track and I, for one, am really looking forward to the release of their album. For those that grew up in the '80s this feels like a trip down memory lane, but updated to appeal to a more modern audience. Add this to your collection - you won't regret it. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
