Velvet Moon (EP)

Artist: Velvet Morning
Label: Tree House Music
RRP: £5.99
Release Date: 24 February 2014

Velvet Morning are a newly formed guitar based psychedelic band. They hail from the sleepy Essex coastline of Southend-on-Sea. Influences include The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Psychedelic Furs and Spacemen 3, but the band's creative output also channels the likes of Moon Duo, Night Beats, White Fence, Hookworms and Psychic Ills...

Velvet Morning display a uniquely avant-garde expression of the modern pop structure in their debut EP Velvet Moon. It veers from multilayered instrumentation to sparse drone, while themeing itself around a slow, downbeat tempo.

If you're looking for something a little more mainstream, to ease you into the bands style, ‘Paranoia’ has potent lyrics and instrumental breaks, while ‘Blue Jean Baby’ harks back to The Factory era sixties but heavy on the bassline.

This EP contains 6 tracks (24 mins) and this is a band you'll either instantly fall in love with, or totally not get. As debut EPs go, there's enough diversity to make Velvet Morning a band that's worth listening out for in the future.
