Pillar Point’s self-titled debut album is the brain child of Scott Reitherman, better known for his involvement with indie-pop band Throw Me the Statue. Pillar Point has a moody, melancholy electronica sound to it that is difficult to shake from your head. The album contains 9 tracks (37 min) is produced by Reitherman’s longtime collaborator Charlie Smith, and is something of a musical departure for Reitherman, Across this album he deals with several issues that are topical to a younger audience. 'Eyeballs' is a powerful ode to the solitude brought about by social networks; while 'Echoes' and 'Cherry' channels the apathetic, shell-shocked feeling young people have when they’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives. There's a real retro vibe to the album, thanks in the main to the use of synthesisers. But the end result is a fresh, modern feel incorporating older technology. This an interesting album with more than a handful of catchy songs. 'Diamond Mine' is particularly memorable, as is 'Touch'. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
