The Unknown marks Dillon's second release with German label, BPitch Control. Founded by electronic producer Ellen Allien in 1999, BPitch Control is famed for launching the careers of iconic techno acts, including Modeselektor, Paul Kalkbrenner, Apparat and Moderat... Dillion is one of those artists that you're going to instantly love or dislike... there's no real middle ground here. It's also doubtful that those who don't enjoy her style the first listen through will eventually allow her to grow on them. The reason? Well, her grating voice is either going to attract you or push you away. The 12 songs (44 min) are universally depressing. I'm one of the lucky few people who roam this earth that has never been cursed with depression, but after listening to this album several times I was starting to get there. There is an air of Björk's vocals here, but nowhere near as diverse a range - and at least Björk had the decency to include some upbeat tracks to stop us slipping into a coma. There's no argument that Dillion can both write and sing, it's just that I couldn't help but feel that all the tracks merged into one big, depressing pile of mush. I listened to the album on and off for over a week and still on repeat listenings can't find a memorable or noteworthy track that is worthy of adding to my playlist. If you get her... then you'll love her. If you don't, then don't think that you'll eventually warm to her. Dillion is a very acquired taste. 5 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
