UMC releases the various artists soundtrack to Orange Is the New Black. The TV show follows engaged Brooklynite Piper Chapman, whose wild past comes back to haunt her and results in her arrest and detention in a federal penitentiary. To pay her debt to society, Piper trades her comfortable New York life for an orange prison jumpsuit and finds unexpected conflict and camaraderie amidst an eccentric group of inmates... Artists included on this release include Regina Spektor, Kelis, The Velvet Underground & Nico, and more. The score contains 12 tracks (39 min, 12 sec) and ranges from classic The Velvet Underground's 'Sunday Morning' to the bizarre Nancy Cassidy's 'Chicken'. It tries to explore most musical genres, but the end result felt, to me, like a bit of a train crash. iTunes has pretty much made compilations like this redundant, as you can find most of the tracks here that you like and purchase them separately. Personally it's not an album I'd want to listen to again in a hurry, but for fans of the show I'm sure this will be a worthwhile purchase.
