Sarah, Aaron and Zach Rayne along with Bryan Harris and Jeffrey Baird make up the members of Babes. Their music encompasses the past five decades of pop music - from Brill Building to the grimiest Los Angeles punk basements. Babes’s self-titled EP combines punk irreverence with the kind of gold-standard professionalism you’d get from Oliver: The Musical. The four tracks (11 min, 01 sec) showcase the groups versatility, with each song being radically different from the last. 'Isn't It Love' is a slow, '70s-esque track; 'Atmo' has more of an '80s disco feel; 'You & Me' is a dreamy '90s song, very much in the vein of The Breeders; and 'Hey My Man' reminded me of Supergrass's '90s hit 'Alright'. It's an interesting EP and I'm looking forward to hearing a full album in the near future. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
