Recorded in an old shoe factory, Pangaea is the latest album from Acollective. A priority for the band was to maintain the essence of their environment so everything was recorded live. Amongst the members influences, they cite Sufjan Stevens, Beck, Paul Simon and Radiohead. They also have a love of Dixie Jazz, Japanese Pop and old-school hip-hop to modern-Arab-kitsch. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this has meant that Pangaea is quite an unstable album. But let it not be said that it isn’t cohesive. Of the 12 tracks (41 min, 35 sec) personal favourite tracks include 'Fine' and 'Locket', but everyone will have their own selection that they'll warm to. It's a strange album, but never dull. And on the track 'Had It Once' did I hear right? Did they sing: "We got soap"? 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
