Acclaimed singer-songwriter Jon Allen releases his third album Deep River on Monologue Records. Allen's style is unmistakable and his voice unmissable as he mixes catchy tunes and folk and Sixties-inflected country blues. Deep River contains 11 tracks (40 min, 46 sec) and incorporates elements of folk and blues to deliver an album with an almost effortless feel to it. It's an enjoyable album, which opens on the right note with the easy flowing 'Night & Day' and closes with chilled out 'Keep Moving On'. 'Falling Back' is a chilled out summer song which rattles around in your head long after you've finished playing it. 'Fire in My Heart' sounds very similar to The Radiacs's 'Bad Things', which was covered by Jace Everett and used as the theme tune to True Blood. 'Get What's Mine' has a similar guitar riff as Huey Lewis and the News's 'The Heart of Rock & Roll'. The tracks are diverse and Allen's singing style is so smooth that you'll be hard pressed to find a track that you don't like. It's an enjoyable, relaxing album that's well worth investing in. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
