Varèse Sarabande Records release Abel Korzeniowski's score for Penny Dreadful. The Showtime television series features some of literature's most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. Penny Dreadful is a frightening psychological thriller that weaves together these classic horror origin stories into a new adult drama... Abel Korzeniowski's score for Penny Dreadful is like a character of the show in its own right. The album contains 29 tracks (1 hr, 12 min, 48 sec) of beautiful themes and rousing set pieces. Opening with the memorable and intricate 'Demimonde (Main Title)' the album never lets up on its attack on your senses. However, it's midway through the album where the really nuggets are to be found. 'Mina'; 'Allegiance'; 'Dorian Gray'; and 'Never Say No' showcase Korzeniowski's ability to deliver some beautiful, melancholic themes. There's a loving nod to Bernard Herrmann's work on Psycho in the track 'The Last Rites' and the opening of 'Reborn' reminded me of Garry Schyman's eerie score for the game Bioshock. Each and every one of the 29 tracks is a lovingly crafted work of art. The fact this is music that was composed on a budget for a TV show makes it even more incredible. 10 Darren Rea Buy this item online
