La-La Land Records release Frederik Wiedmann's score for Field of Lost Shoes. The movie is based on a true story of the American Civil War, culminating at the Battle of New Market, May 1864. A group of teenage cadets, sheltered from war at the Virginia Military Institute, must confront the horrors of an adult world when they are called upon to defend the Shenandoah Valley. Leaving behind their youth, these cadets must decide what they are fighting for. The movie’s title refers to the moment when 257 young VMI cadets charged successfully through a soggy wheat field toward Yankee positions - even as many of their shoes remained stuck in the mud - forcing the Union forces to withdraw... Frederik Wiedmann's (The Seal of Confession; Green Lantern: The Animated Series; Hostel: Part III; Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox) score for Field of Lost Shoes represents another impressive collection of moving themes from this incredible composer. It's odd, because I recently rediscovered his work for the Green Lantern animated series and I'd forgotten how incredible it was. And then Field of Lost Shoes landed in my inbox. This is yet another epic and memorable score, with some beautiful themes. 'Main Title' and 'The Recruited' reminded me of James Horner's score for Titanic, and there's also a snippet of music in there that brought to mind 'Goodbye' from Alan Silvestri's score for Predator. 'Sunstruck Rat' also reminded me of Silvestri's work on Back to the Future III. Highlight include the incredible short, but very sweet 'From an Artist's Mind'; 'A Conversation'; 'Thoughts on War'; 'Aftermath'; and 'A Soldier's Heart'. The album contains 26 tracks (1 hr, 12 min, 32 sec). If you're a fan of emotionally charged, melancholy scores, you'll love Field of Lost Shoes. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
