Tengil's debut album, Stanni Altah, incorporates Nordic folk with hints of world music. It's gothic, medieval, fantasy that is, apparently, inspired by heathen mysteries and the beauty of the North. As debut fantasy album's go, Stanni Altah is pretty impressive. It's surprising, given that the band's main instrument of choice is the bagpipe - a sound that would normally turn me off immediately. But, in the hands of Tengil, the sound is actually quite relaxing and... dare I say it... rather pleasant. The album contains 7 tracks (41 min, 29 sec) and is peppered with sounds that you half recognise. 'Frungal', for example has elements that give it a middle eastern market vibe. If you're a fan of gothic, medieval fantasy music then you'll love this album. 8 Darren Rea Buy this item online
