Varèse Sarabande Records release Carlos Rafael Rivera's score for A Walk Among the Tombstones. Based on Lawrence Block’s best selling series of mystery novels, the movie stars Liam Neeson as Matt Scudder, an ex-NYPD cop who now works as an unlicensed private investigator operating just outside the law. When Scudder reluctantly agrees to help a heroin trafficker hunt down the men who kidnapped and then brutally murdered his wife, the PI learns that this is not the first time these men have committed this sort of twisted crime... nor will it be the last. Blurring the lines between right and wrong, Scudder races to track the deviants through the backstreets of New York City before they kill again... Carlos Rafael Rivera's score for A Walk Among the Tombstones contains 13 tracks (30 min, 48 sec) of rather interesting suspense music. There are parallels to be drawn with Bernard Herrmann here, especially in tracks like 'Kenny's Story' and 'Kenny in the Basement', which reminded me of Herrmann's work on Vertigo (1958). Other tracks of interest include the quirky 'Matt Scudder'; 'Matt Follows Loogan'; and this album's most impressive section 'Aftermath / Reprise'. While not an essential purchase, there are enough interesting themes to make it worth adding to the list. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
