The third and final volume of the soundtrack to Boardwalk Empire is released by ABKCO Records. The album encompasses the music heard in seasons 4 and 5 (the final season). Remaining consistent with both previous soundtrack volumes, it is the collaborative work of series music producer Stewart Lerman, music supervisor Randall Poster and bandleader Vince Giordano - the musical backbone of the project...

For those who enjoyed volumes 1 and 2 of this series, volume 3 offers more of the same. This is another collection of contemporary musicians recording both popular and obscure 1920's Prohibition-era songs.

There are 19 tracks (1 hr, 2 min, 27 sec) on this volume, which is heavily influenced by the emergence of Bing Crosby as a bona fide superstar by the beginning of the '30s. The soundtrack opens with Crosby’s first solo hit 'I Surrender Dear', performed by Elvis Costello, and also includes Marshall Crenshaw singing 'Out of Nowhere', a landmark #1 song for Crosby.

As some of season 5 is based in Havana, Latin/Cuban rhythms are included in some of the tracks, including 'The Peanut Vendor', sung by Pedrito Martinez, and David Oquendo’s rendition of 'Son Que Quita Las Penas'.

The award for the most obscure, and mildly racist, track has to got to 'The Yodeling Chinaman'.

For fans of the show, and anyone with an interest in music from that period, this is an interesting collection of songs.
