Varèse Sarabande Records releases Kasper Winding's score for The Riot Club. Set amongst the privileged elite of Oxford University, the movie follows Miles and Alistair, two first year students determined to join the infamous Riot Club, where reputations can be made or destroyed over the course of a single evening... Kasper Winding's score for The Riot Club houses some interesting themes. It opens with the impressive 'Riot Club Intro' which hints at the Classical music aspect of the tracks to come. There's a little bit of the spirit of Michael Kamen alive and present in tracks like 'Lauren and Miles', 'Please Forgive Me' and 'Love Theme' - I'm reminded, in particular, of Kamen's only James Bond score, Licence to Kill. The album contains 23 tracks (38 min, 38 sec) and while offering some incredibly original and beautiful classical based themes ('Riot Club Theme'; 'Cocaine Fools'; 'Is He Dead'; 'Alistair's Triumph') it also throws the odd curve ball. For example, the operatic based 'Spirituale' is followed by the '80s industrial electronic sound of 'Initiation'. It's a mix that shouldn't work, but it does... and incredibly well. The whole album is neatly wrapped up with the song 'We're Out There Somewhere," performed by Graham Coxon, which is the perfect way to close an almost perfect album. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
