Jouis (Jhew-ee) are a 5 piece band based in Brighton. Combining Jazz, Psychedelia and Progressive Rock, their sounds are designed to open your mind, and spirit you away to new lucid dimensions. Jouis is a French word roughly translated as ‘high enjoyment’ (derived from ‘Jouissance’), a philosophy the band has upheld since its inception in 2008 at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. Dojo is the band's debut album... Dojo is quite an impressive debut album, in that the band experiment with so many styles and genres that it's hard not to find at least several track that you'll enjoy instantly... and wait for the other tracks to slowly sink in and take a grip on your senses. The album contains 9 tracks (47 min, 11 sec), with too many interesting tracks to list. However, I was struck by the opening to 'Universe Goggles', which reminded me of Pink Floyd's 'Shine on You Crazy Diamond'. It's an interesting start to their career, and if there's any justice in the music industry, they'll be big... and soon. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
