The LEGO Movie Video Game follows Emmet, an average, rule-following citizen, who is mistakenly identified as the key to saving the world. In the game, players guide Emmet as he is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously under prepared. With a delightful mix of over 90 characters from the feature film, including Batman, Superman, the Green Ninja and Gandalf, The LEGO Movie Video Game leads gamers on a journey through fantastical worlds in 45 exciting levels...

Review imageFor fans of The LEGO Movie, the official videogame give you the chance to engage in an extra level of LEGO action. The game follows the movie quite closely, incorporating plenty of cut sequences that are taken straight from the film.

Worry not, if you've not seen the movie, as it's not overly important as the plot unfolds giving you the background to what on earth is going on.

While the early levels are easy, the game starts to become a little unnecessarily difficult as you progress. In fact, I gave up in the end when I got to a level where I kept falling off the platforms to be smashed into pieces and have to restart the level from scratch. This wouldn't have been too much of an issue if it weren't for the fact that the developers have placed LEGO studs for you to pick up, right on the edge of the platforms. And, even more frustratingly, if you attack the enemies, or tap on a destructible area, your character goes running towards where you've tapped and after they have made their move they slide a little further and fall off the edge.

Review imageI was surprised at how good this game looks on the iPad and how easy it was to pick up and play, not to mention how addictive and fun it was.

In-App purchases (if you're that way inclined) allow you to buy bricks, which means you can unlock additional LEGO characters that allow you to access areas of each level that you can't get to with your free collection of characters. However, don't worry if you don't want to buy any additional content, because as you progress through the game you unlock lots of new characters and part of the fun with this game is going back to earlier levels and completing all of the tasks.

Thanks to the wisecracking comedy, this is a game that both the very young and more mature gamer will both get a kick out of. If you've got a lot of patients, and can manage to stay with it through the odd frustrating level, you'll have hours and hours of fun.
