Lakeshore Records releases the various artists soundtrack album to Song One, a romantic drama set against the backdrop of Brooklyn’s vibrant modern-folk music scene. After Franny’s musician brother Henry is injured and hospitalised in a coma following a car accident, Franny returns home after a long estrangement and begins to use his notebook as a guide to how his life has evolved in her absence. Franny seeks out the musicians and artists Henry loved, in the course of her journey meeting James Forester, his musical idol, whose success and fame belie a shy and private man. As a strong romantic connection develops between Franny and James, the question becomes if love can bloom even under the most adverse circumstances... I think it's safe to say that the various artists soundtrack to Song One is only really going to appeal to those who fell in love with the movie and want a musical souvenir to play at home. Personally, it's not a score that I particularly enjoyed, mainly because I'm not a huge fan of the music collected here. The majority of the tracks are composed and performed by Johnny Flynn. Sadly I wasn't a fan of either his lyrics or singing... so that was an immediate turn off. Other negative aspects include the hoedown based 'Cumberland Gap'; and Paul Whitty's weird tongue clicking song 'O Leaozinho' (which I can't work out, having not seen the film, whether it is supposed to be intentionally bad). On the plus side, there's 'I Need You' by America; the bizarre 'Crystal Cat' by Dan Deacon; and Nina Simone's classic 'My Baby Just Cares For Me'. The album contains 15 tracks (47 min, 50 sec). Ones for fans of the film only. Track listing: 01 - 'Bulb Went Black' - Johnny Flynn 4 Darren Rea Buy this item online
