Castle Face has chosen Ty Segall Band for the fifth entry in its 'Live In San Francisco' series. The recording was captured during two nights in San Francisco at the barely-pushing-medium sized venue The Rickshaw Stop. I suppose you had to be there to really appreciate Ty Segall Band's live set. Listening to it through headphones, in an office it doesn't really have the right mix. It's too muffled and in places it sounded like it was actually recorded in the venue's toilets. I wasn't overly keen on the songs or the delivery. Raw, it may be, but while I usually like live recordings that are a little rough around the edges, I couldn't get on with this recording. Using your guitar to make a noise like a siren is mildly entertaining once... but when it's repeated at the end of a second song,,, we'll, it sort of loses its novelty. I wasn't overly impressed by this release, but no doubt fans of the band will lap this up. Those who enjoy punk may also find something here to appreciate. 4 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
