MovieScore Media release Paul Leonard-Morgan's enigmatic, electronica based-score for The Numbers Station. Kasper Barfoed’s 2013 thriller starring John Cusack and Malin Akerman follows the latest mission of a disgraced black ops agent Emerson Kent (Cusack) who is sent to a remote CIA broadcast station to protect a code operator named Katherine (Akerman). The distant station becomes the claustrophobic setting for a race against time in an attempt to stop a deadly plot - by combining their own particular strengths and resources, Emerson and Katherine become the perfect team to unravel the mystery surrounding them... Paul Leonard-Morgan's score for The Numbers Station is both atmospheric and, at times, oddly chilling. The theme that can be heard in tracks including 'Extraction' is subtle but rather unsettling. It's just this side of creepy and other-worldly. 'Cracking the Codes' is, likewise, a little on the eerie side, and represents one of the highlights of the album, along with the main theme based 'The Numbers Station' and 'I Want Out'. Electronic scores of this atmospheric nature don't usually tend to work when listened to outside of the movie they were written for, but Leonard-Morgan has delivered a surprisingly satisfying listening experience. The album contains 15 tracks (59 min, 10 sec) and while this may be a bit too atmospheric for some, the themes that are present are well worth the wait. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
