San Francisco based NRVS LVRS began their journey at the beginning of 2014. Circuit bent bleeps, grimy drum loops, buzzy toys, humming synths, processed handclaps, and failing '80s keyboards are all creatively edited together with the flesh and blood sounds of guitar, bass and drums in this album... The Golden West explores the many problems the current technology boom in the band's native San Francisco is causing. In a city with a disappearing arts & culture scene, where work and free time have become indistinguishable, and locals are being priced out of their own homes, NRVS LVRS find themselves obliged to tackle this state of affairs through their music. The album’s title track 'Golden West', explores the city’s increasingly profit-driven housing market, this song centres on a tenant being unfairly evicted via the Ellis Act, a controversial California law. In addition, 'Black Diamonds' explores the problem of an overworked tech industry and its corporate leaders. The issues explored in the album are not unique to San Francisco. The songs explore problems that are at the heart of every major US and European city. But, political commentary aside, the tracks here are, on the whole, upbeat with an '80s twist. 7 Nick Smithson |
