Milan Records release Will Bates's original score for the documentary. Going Clear Scientology and the Prison of Belief. Based on Lawrence Wright's novel and directed by Alex Gibney, the movie profiles eight former members of the Church of Scientology, whose most prominent adherents include A-list Hollywood celebrities, shining a light on how the church cultivates true believers, detailing their experiences and what they are willing to do in the name of religion. The film highlights the Church’s origins, from its roots in the mind of founder L. Ron Hubbard to its rise in popularity in Hollywood and beyond... Will Bates delivers an impressive score for the documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief. I say impressive, because it is an unsettling, collection of eerie and quirky themes. So, while he's done an impressive job of coming up with a memorable and spot on score, it's a shame that it doesn't work anywhere near as well outside of the film. What we have here are a collection of wacky, eerie and downright odd (the theremin based 'Nocturne In C# Minor') tracks. In fact, with the closing 'Liebesleid' I wasn't sure if I was listening to a theremin or swanee whistle. If you're after odd, then this will suit you down to the ground... for everyone else this is probably a score best listened to only in the movie it was intended for. 5 Darren Rea Buy this item online
