The Door Behind the Door

Artist: The Black Ryder
Label: The Anti-Machine Machine
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 20 April 2015

Psych-Rock/Shoegaze band The Black Ryder is due to tour with The Jesus and Mary Chain (2015), having previously toured with Primal Scream, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Brian Jonestown Massacre (who also collaborated on their last album), The Black Angels and many more. Their new album sees the band join the new wave of indie-psychedelia/shoegaze the only difference is that they are sonically individual...

The Black Ryder's The Door Behind the Door is an intriguing album in as much as it gives the band the opportunity to experiment with numerous sounds that, on paper, sound like they wouldn't mix at all. The end result is a mellow, slow album that lodges itself in your brain.

The album contains 9 tracks (53 min, 35 sec) and highlights include 'Let Me Be Your Light'; the Bluesy ' Throwing Stones' and 'Until the Calm of Dawn'. But it's the album's final track, '(Le Dernier Sommeil) The Final Sleep' which will throw you off guard. This is just over 12 minutes of music that borders on Score/Classical. It binds the rest of the album together - it's like everything has been building to this one big moment - and leaves you wanting more.

This is a beautiful chill-out album that will be one you revisit for years to come.
