Crocodiles' fifth album, Boys, sees the guys decamp to Mexico City where producer Martin Thulin captured this latest psych-pop creation. Trashy in some places and beautiful in others, this colourful album sees the band revisiting many of the sonic Crocodilian themes that have earned them worldwide acclaim while also experimenting with many new ideas. There's a flavour of salsa-punk in tracks like 'Crybaby Demon' and 'Kool TV'; noisy guitars mesh with Latin rhythms. 'Foolin’ Around' sees a number of influences crammed into one song For those that enjoy Crocodiles’ bizarro-pop side, there's 'Peroxide Hearts', 'Transylvania' and 'Hard' to keep you happy. 'The Boy Is A Tramp' reminded me of Aztec Camera's 'Somewhere In My Heart', which you'd think would feel out of place, but oddly enough, it doesn't. In addition 'Don't Look Up' brought to mind a punky version of Supergrass's 'Alright'. It's an interesting, collection of punky-pop tracks that's worth seeking out. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
