Sony Classical release Anne Dudley's score for the BBC period drama Poldark. Based on the novels by Winston Graham and adapted by Debbie Horsfield, Poldark is set in the late 18th century. Ross Poldark returns from the American War of Independence to his beloved Cornwall, having spent three years in the army to avoid charges of smuggling, leaving behind his sweetheart Elizabeth. Alas, he finds his world in ruins with his father dead, his house wrecked and his sweetheart engaged to his cousin. How will he move on from this destruction...? Anne Dudley delivers a subtle, beautiful score for Poldark. While over the 20 tracks (51 min, 35 sec) there's very little that will lodge in your mind (there's no memorable themes to speak of), this isn't really an issue with a score as beautiful as this. It's the kind of music you can put on in the background and read to - it doesn't demand your full attention. It's a hauntingly compulsive collection of music that will have you returning to time and time again. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
