In the wake of a disaster that wipes out most of civilization, Z for Zachariah is about when a young woman who believes she is the last human on Earth meets a dying scientist searching for survivors. Their relationship becomes tenuous when another male survivor appears. As the two men compete for the woman's affection, their primal urges begin to reveal their true nature... Helen McIntosh's score for Z for Zachariah is a mellow, yet subtle score that offers a few nice surprises. The album contains 26 tracks (52 min, 18 sec) and opens with the promising 'Outside the Valley', which contains a subtle but sweet main theme. In addition 'Hymn Part 2' reminded me of an old '90s Michael Nyman score. 'A Visitor' is another beautiful highlight, a slow building, sad track that is simple in construction, but sounds more complex than it actually is. While not an essential purchase, there are enough moments and interesting themes to make this worth checking out. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
