KeepMoving Records release Stanislas Syrewicz score for Stranded, a two-part television adaptation of The Swiss Family Robinson. The how centres on a self-reliant family who discover an exotic paradise while being threatened by pirates. Shot on Southeast Asian locations on Thailand, the film features not only family drama, but lots of swashbuckling action, especially in its second half when the pirates stage a raid on the family's property... Stanislas Syrewicz's score for Stranded is another beautiful release from KeepMoving Records. The album contains 29 tracks (1 hr, 03 min, 39 sec) and hardly a note is wasted. This is an album packed full of intense themes. The show's narrative helps to ensure a varied score. Not only have we the beautiful location and wonder of discovering a remote island paradise, but there's also the swashbuckling action themes too. There's the spirit of Bernard Herrmann running through this score (most notably in tracks like 'Boys In Jungle' and 'Knife'. In addition, I was reminded of Ed Welch's music for The Thirty Nine Steps (1978) when listening to ''Napoleon / Emily'. In addition, the closing track 'Make Certain Of It / End Credits' brought to mind John Williams's score for Jurassic Park and Howard Shore's work on Big. Once again, I find myself applauding KeepMoving Records. This is another example of a beautiful soundtrack would probably have faded into history without getting the coverage and recognition it so rightly deserves. The themes are varied and beautiful. On balance, this plays more like an work of classical music in its own right, rather than music to accompany a TV miniseries. The CD comes with 8-page liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film and the score based on original interviews with the director and the composer. One word of warning. It appears that the album is only available on CD, with a limited print run of 500 copies, from KeepMoving's website (keepmovingrecords.com). With this being the case I strongly urge you to pick this album up before it sells out. 10 Darren Rea |
