Lakeshore Records releases James Newton Howard's score for Pawn Sacrifice. In a gripping true story set during the height of the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer finds himself caught between two superpowers when he challenges the Soviet Empire. The movie chronicles Fischer's terrifying struggles with genius and madness, and the rise and fall of a kid from Brooklyn who captured the imagination of the world... James Newton Howard's score for Pawn Sacrifice is a subtle, yet beautiful score with some wonderfully intricate themes. It's a shame that this soundtrack is so short - 8 tracks (23 min, 30 sec) - as I could have easily listened to way more in a similar vein. The opening track 'There's Usually One Right Move' and 'Bobby Wins' reminded me of Rob Simonsen's wonderful score for The Age of Adaline. It's a beautiful little score and certainly worth keeping an eye out for. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
