Varèse Sarabande releases Laurent Eyquem's score for Momentum. The movie stars Olga Kurylenko as Alex, an infiltration expert who accidentally reveals her identity during what should have been a routine heist. She quickly finds herself mixed up in a government conspiracy and entangled in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with a master assassin (James Purefoy). Armed with her own set of lethal skills, Alex looks to exact revenge for her murdered friends while uncovering the truth... I wasn't overly struck with Laurent Eyquem's score for Momentum the first time I listened to it. While there was nothing to instantly dislike about it, it appeared, on the surface, to be a by-the-numbers action score with very little to make it stand out from numerous similar soundtracks. I was, however, intrigued to hear 'Get Rid of the Evidence', which sounded like a modern, electronic James Bond score (if John Barry was still alive and composing). On subsequent listens, the score has grown on me somewhat, and there are intricate and interesting themes hidden in tracks like 'The Parking Lot Chase'; 'Clever Girl'; 'The Torture'; and the album's closing track 'Momentum'. While it's not a score I'd recommend as an essential purchase, there are enough quality themes buried away, and adrenaline fuelled action segments to make it worth checking out before you dismiss it. The album contains 22 tracks (48 min, 23 sec). 6 Darren Rea Buy this item online
