Anarelle Mus (Anara Musrepova) is a film and music producer, film director and composer who was born in Kazakhstan. She is currently a resident of Paris, France. With so many talents to draw on, Mus releases highlights from her short film career on this album from Plaza Mayor. The music presented here (9 tracks - 49 min, 24 sec) and it's very clear to see (or should I say hear) that Mus is not afraid to experiment with her music. There are so many different approaches and genres explored here that the album deserves recognition for this feat alone. Sadly there were no accompanying notes, on the review copy we received, to indicate which films these tracks were taken from. My personal favourite track has to be 'Îlot'. It's the only one that comes close to being traditional in its construction and delivery. Other highlights include 'Trocadero' which has a musical style and electronic sound effects that reminded me of the original Sonic the Hedgehog 8-bit console game from Sega; and 'Carnival' sounds very much like the sort of music that Orbital used to release. For execution and gutsy composition you can't fault this. While I'm sure that the music beautifully compliments the films it was written for, as a collection of music pieces to listen to on their own merits unfortunately this isn't an easy album to digest. 6 Darren Rea Buy this item online
