Alarmist is an instrumental quartet from Dublin, comprised of Neil Crowley, Elis Czerniak, Osgar Dukes and Barry O'Halpin. Their debut LP, Popular Demain, is a natural evolution of the sound established in the band's previous EPs, forming a soundworld that somehow finds common ground for jazz-infused math-rock, warped experimental pop melodies and brutalist slabs of pulsing electronics... Jazz-based electronica... that's about as close as I can get to pigeonhole Alarmist - but I'm doing them a great disservice in the process. The sound is timeless and this album works just as well if you dip in and out of the tracks as it does when listened to from start to finish. The album contains 8 tracks (39 min, 11 sec) and will find a welcome home in the collection of those who enjoy electronica with classical-based tunes. I had to smile during the track 'Popular Demain'. Was that a quick blast of the Christmas Carol 'Deck the Halls' I heard? It's hard to explain the album unless you've heard it. This is an electronic album for those who don't usually like electronic albums. Deep melodies and well constructed, rich themes, make this an album worthy of your time. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
