Lakeshore Records releases Michael Brook's score for Brooklyn. The movie tells the profoundly moving story of Eilis Lacey, a young Irish immigrant navigating her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother’s home for the shores of New York City. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her new vivacity is disrupted by her past, and Eilis must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within... Michael Brook delivers an intricate and beautiful score for Brooklyn. The album contains 24 tracks (39 min, 14 sec) with the majority of the album's compositions containing melancholic, sweet themes. Given the main character's background, it will come as no surprise to learn that quite a few of the tracks incorporate a traditional Irish music feel to them. Personal favourite tracks include the subtle, yet beautiful 'Arriving In America'; the sweet 'Letter From Home'; 'Letter To Home'; 'Rose Dies' (which reminded me of Patrick Cassidy's music for Calvary); and 'Goodbye Eilis'. For those who enjoy subtle, heart-wrenchingly beautiful scores, Brooklyn is worth adding to your collection. 9 Darren Rea Buy this item online
