San Francisco DIY pop king Kelley Stoltz releases In Triangle Time, a pop album that draws inspiration from Stoltz's love of, amongst others, Echo & the Bunnymen and The Fall... You wait ages for a Kelley Stoltz project and then three come along at once. In Triangle Time is the third Stoltz release this year following on from his 4 Cuts EP and The Scuzzy Inputs of Willie Weird. His previous album was 2013's Double Exposure. It's a slightly retro sounding album, brought up to date for a more modern audience. I couldn't help but notice that 'Cut me Baby' sounds very similar to the opening track, 'Aeiou' on Willie Weird. For me, of this album's 12 tracks (44 min, 16 sec) the one standout highlight is 'Heart Full of Rain', which is an upbeat, memorable pop track. Other notable songs include 'Pyramid of Time' (a mellow indie track with a catchy guitar riff); 'Fictional Girl' (which is an '80s throw back track); 'Wobbly' (a tongue in cheek song that draws inspiration from the '50s/'60s); and 'Destroyer & Drones' (a really beautiful stripped back track to close the album on). Overall, this is an enjoyable album with numerous styles. This is not some quickly knocked out collection of bland songs. Stoltz delivers the goods. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
