In the historic melting pot of 19th century New York, Fievel and the Mousekewitz family are struggling to make their "American dream" come true. But when a mysterious treasure map leads Fievel and his friends to a secret world of Native American mice living beneath the city, he finds something even more precious than gold and jewels...

An American Tail: The Treasure of Manhattan Island (1998) is the third movie in the An American Tail franchise. This film is actually a lot more entertaining than the previous tale, An American: Tail Fievel Goes West, and revolves around Fievel and his friends search for secret treasure.

Heading underground, via a disused underground tube station, our heroes get into all sorts of scrapes.

The animation also appears a lot more polished than the previous film, and this is a movie that parents can sit and enjoy with their kids, even if there's little in the way of adult humour.

Again, this seems to be an old release being simply reissued without any new features or sprucing up the print. It's another pan and scan release that was popular back in the day before widescreen TVs were common place. What this means, however, is that a large amount of the film's original picture is missing (unless you want to stretch the picture across the screen - shame on you).

The only extras are How Do I Find Things? (which is a feature designed for the young to explain how to use the DVD control - but as most babies are born with DVD controllers in their hands these days, it's a bit of a pointless addition); and You Can Go Anywhere in Your Dreams Sing-Along (3 min, 04 sec karaoke version of the song from the film).
