Guelassemou is the debut album of master percussionist Thomas Guei. Guei comes from a musical family (both musicians and dancers) and was playing with Gloe drummers (aka krin (Guinea), or lokole (Congo)), from an early age. He attended EDEC (School of Dance and Cultural Exchange) and became the lead drummer at Les Guirivoires Dance Company. He moved to France, where he recorded with musicians including Tiken Jah Fakoly and Meiway). He currently travels all over the world transmit showcasing his own distinct form of art... Guelassemou is an anthology which mixes traditional sounds (flaly, abodan, tématé) and urban rhythms (zouglou) of Côte d’Ivoire. The album incorporates traditional drums and vocals from Côte d’Ivoire, giving a listener a taste of the rich musical heritage from that part of the world. Those that are learning to play percussion instruments, who love to collect new world sounds or are looking for an album that is a little different will enjoy what Guei has to offer here. 7 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
