Flesh and Bone
Ballet Music from the Starz Original Series

Composer: Adam Crystal
Label: Varèse Sarabande
RRP: £TBC
Release Date: 15 January 2016

Varèse Sarabande release Adam Crystal's four-movement original Dakini Ballet for the TV series Flesh and Bone. The show is a dark and gritty series following a young dancer, Claire, as she joins a prestigious New York City ballet company and encounters the glamour and dysfunction of the ballet world. She becomes Artistic Director Paul’s muse, creating new opportunities and new enemies. Claire's self-destructive tendencies amid her vaulting ambitions drive her in compelling, unforeseeable ways, especially when she is confronted with the machinations of the company's mercurial Artistic Director and an unwelcome visitor from her past...

For fans of the TV show Flesh and Bone, as well as lovers of classical music, Adam Crystal's Dakini Ballet is an essential purchase.

This 3 track EP (13 min, 04 sec) contains the ballet's 4 movements. Crystal had his work cut out for him here, having to compose music for a new ballet that would both capture the essence of the show, while still standing on its own two feet as a piece of music that could quite easily be compared to some of the most notable ballet compositions.

It's pretty obvious, almost from the start, that this was very much a labour of love. Crystal pours his heart into this work and the end results speak for themselves. Even if you've never seen the show, this is a wonderful work of modern classical music.
