Varèse Sarabande release Dave Porter's score for Flesh and Bone, the STARZ series that details the gritty underworld of professional ballet. This dark and gritty series follows a young dancer, Claire, as she joins a prestigious New York City ballet company and encounters the glamour and dysfunction of the ballet world. She becomes Artistic Director Paul’s muse, creating new opportunities and new enemies. Dave Porter delivers numerous themes which are woven throughout this score. The album contains 27 tracks (1 hr, 12 sec) most of which are subtle, quiet tracks designed to add a little background atmosphere.

In places I was reminded of Howard Shore's work on Silence of the Lambs (best illustrated on segments of 'She's Brilliant'). This is a score that has to be listened to numerous times before it can be truly appreciated, as on a first listen through there appears not to be much of substance. There is, but you need to soak it up slowly and over several listens.

Fans of the show will love this, as will those that enjoy slow, subtle scores that require you to invest much time in them.
