Silva Screen Records releases Charlie Mole's orchestral score to Dad's Army. May, 1944. As the Allied armies massed in the British Isles prepare to invade Occupied Europe and strike a mighty blow against Hitler’s Reich, a heavy responsibility falls on the men of Walmington-on-Sea’s Home Guard platoon... Charlie Mole manages to capture the feel of 1940's Britain with his wonderful score for Dad's Army. He subtly references 'Rule, Britannia!' through a handful of tracks ('Proud To Be British'; 'Captain Mainwaring The Hero'; 'That's Enough George') as well as creating a feel of the style of dance hall music of the time ('Secret Rendezvous'; 'Rose Goes To The Cave And High St.') The album contains 22 tracks (46 min, 05 min) of lush, patriotic sounding themes. Who can fail to fall in love with beautiful, yet quintessentially British chest beating themes like 'That's Enough George'? Or Gutav Holst-esque 'The Beach'? The album also contains 'Moonlight Serenade' performed by Glen Miller, and 'Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Mr. Hitler', the original theme from the BBC's '60s/70s Dad's Army TV series, performed by Bud Flanagan. The film has yet to be released, but who cares what it's like? Mole's score is a hit, that's all you need to know. 8 Darren Rea Buy this item online
