Brooklyn group High Highs, release their new album Cascades. There's a distinct '70s vibe to this release and in many ways the songs reminded me of the work of Chicago. The LP contains 10 songs (40 min, 10 sec) of upbeat pop music. It's a sound that's hard not to like. The vocals are dripped over the effortless, almost minimalist sounding, tracks. This is one of those rare albums where you're unlikely to be able to pick a favourite track, as each time you play it, the album seems to mutate and shift in style. On the first listen through there were tracks a loved and others I didn't really notice. But on another play through I loved some of the songs I'd not given any attention to on the first play through. Then, after a week of playing, the whole album finally came into focus and I started to appreciate how the entire LP really only works because of the way it has been structured. This is an album that takes some time to truly appreciate, but once it all clicks into place you'll totally fall in love with it. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
