Garrett van der Spek is the man behind Prism Tats, who releases his new album through Anti-. It's an Indie album with a toe firmly planted in the '80s. In parts, the album recalls the ghostly throwback groove-stomp and fuzzy warmth of bands like The Jesus & Mary Chain and The Raveonettes... Prism Tats is a warm and fuzzy trip down memory lane, but offering up something new. The album contains 10 songs (38 min, 42 sec) and kicks off on the right note with the upbeat 'Pacifist Masochist'. The LP doesn't let up, with highlights including 'Creep Out // Freak Out'; 'Death or Fame'; and 'Midnight Mountain'. I also really liked the album cover, which shows van der Spek looking a little strange. It's not until you focus on his eyes that you realise they are shut with the words "Prism" and "Tats" drawn onto his eyelids given the impression that his eyes are open. All in all this is a cracking, stomping album. 8 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
