Lakeshore Records release the soundtrack for Elvis & Nixon, which contains both the score by Edward Shearmur as well as classic tracks from artists including Blood, Sweat & Tears, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Otis Redding. On a December morning in 1970, the King of Rock ’n Roll showed up on the lawn of the White House to request a meeting with the most powerful man in the world, President Nixon. He had a very urgent request: to be sworn in as an undercover Federal Agent at large. This intimate moment in the Oval office between two men at the height of their powers has never been told... The soundtrack for Elvis & Nixon contains 17 tracks (38 min, 34 sec). Of these, 11 (19 min, 13 sec) are from Edward Shearmur's original score, with the remaining 6 (19 min, 21 sec) being made up of popular music taken from the time period the film is set in. Shearmur turns in some interesting, light and fluffy tracks. 'A Little History' is very much in keeping with the time of the movie's setting, being a little funky and the majority of the music is in a similar vein. It's a style you're going to either love or hate - but as I'm guessing only fans of the film are going to pick this up, they'll already be drawn to the album because they enjoyed the music in the film. It's an interesting, if somewhat limiting, approach to scoring the film. But it's not the sort of music most will want to listen to over and over again.
