Lakeshore Records release The Girl in the Photographs soundtrack with a score by Nima Fakhrara. The movie revolves around Colleen, whose life isn’t going anywhere. The small town natural beauty is bored with her dead end job at a grocery store and is ready to distance herself from her abusive boyfriend. In the midst of her turmoil, a pair of deranged serial killers begin leaving her photos of their mutilated victims. Her chance to escape comes in the form of Peter Hemmings, a hipster celebrity photographer who has travelled back to his hometown of Spearfish, South Dakota with a pack of models, intent on copying the killers’ intense and unapologetic artistry and use it for an important ad campaign... I'm not normally a fan of horror scores that trot out the standard, cliched cues. I can't fathom who enjoys listening to music of this nature. While they are all designed to heighten the movie's atmosphere, why would anyone want to go jogging, or sit at home relaxing and listen to bone jarring horror cues? This score draws on the history of horror movies, delivering cues that sound instantly familiar while at the same time, being of modern origin. Wherever possible, Nima Fakhrara tries to let moments of beauty shine through, 'Passacaglia' and the beautiful 'End Credits' 'being the most obvious examples, but even that can't disguise the fact that this is mostly a collection of horror cues. If that's your thing, then you'll probably enjoy this album, for everyone else this is music that's best heard while watching the film. 6 Darren Rea Buy this item online
