Clashes

Artist: Brodka
Label: Play it Again Sam
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 13 May 2016

Having already released three acclaimed albums in her native Poland, including 2010’s double-platinum Granda, Clashes marks Brodka's first release in English, and-furthermore-her most diverse and ambitious album to date. Clashes dazzles with Brodka’s singular blend of orchestral pop and cosmic poetry that’s undercut with hint of brooding darkness...

Brodka's voice is distinct; once heard never forgotten. It's a fusion of various singers from the '60s to the present day. She has a timeless yet, paradoxically, retro sound that pretty much insures that this is an album that will age well. This is probably most evident in 'Santa Muerte'.

Clashes sounds like the score to an epic '60s action movie that's been through a heavy restoration process to make it more accessible to a modern audience.

The album contains 12 songs (38 min, 22) and it's hard not to get sucked into Brodka's world, especially when there's so much diversity amongst the tracks. She tackles everything from '60s Pop ('Santa Muerte') to Punk ('My Name is Youth').

An incredibly deep album that will provide months, possibly years, of pleasure.
