Quartet Records release Marcelo Zarvos's score for Our Kind of Traitor. While on holiday in Marrakech, an ordinary English couple, Perry and Gail, befriend a flamboyant and charismatic Russian, Dima, who unbeknownst to them is a kingpin money launderer for the Russian mafia. When Dima asks for their help to deliver classified information to the British Secret Services, Perry and Gail get caught in a dangerous world of international espionage and dirty politics... Director Susanna White wanted to use the music in the movie to explore the ideas of masculinity and friendship, but being a story created by thriller master John Le Carré it also had to carefully balance the action and adventure the characters go through. This is wonderfully balanced by Marcelo Zarvos, who turns in a well above average suspense / action adventure score. The album kicks off on the right note with the beautiful 'The Ballet'. This sets the scene wonderfully for what is to come. Over the course of this album's 20 tracks (1 hr, 02 min, 27 sec) there are numerous suspense themes to sink your teeth into - so if you're a fan of the genre you'll find much to enjoy here. It's a score that works well when played in the background while reading, or playing a game. There are plenty of reflective moments, and interesting music cues. It's certainly an album worth checking out. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
