Xylouris White's sophomore release, Black Peak sees George Xylouris, the Cretan lute player, partner with the Dirty Three’s preternaturally fluent Australian drummer Jim White. Xylouris is a scion of Greek musical royalty, a family from a mountain village near the Cave of Zeus. His father is revered singer / lyra player Psarandonis. Jim White has commanded international attention for more than two decades as part of Australia’s Dirty Three, storm’s-eye instrumental diviners whose emotionally choppy soundscapes brim with elemental force. This is an album you're going to either love or hate. Those looking for catchy, toe-tapping songs will be very disappointed, but those looking for interesting experimentation will find much to enjoy here. The album contains 7 songs (40 min, 41 sec). It's a hard album to get into, but if you spend a bit of time with it you'll reap the rewards. 6 Nick Smithson Buy this item online
