Lakeshore Records release OGRE and Dallas Campbell's original new score for the 1968 zombie horror classic, Night of the Living Dead. In the movie a disparate group of individuals takes refuge in an abandoned house when corpses begin to leave the graveyard in search of fresh human bodies to devour. The pragmatic Ben does his best to control the situation, but when the reanimated bodies surround the house, the other survivors begin to panic. As any semblance of order within the group begins to dissipate, the zombies start to find ways inside -- and one by one, the living humans become the prey of the deceased ones...

OGRE (Robin Ogden) and Dallas Campbell have rescored the soundtrack to one of Horror's cult classics. The first question is why would anyone want to rescore what is already a much revered soundtrack? And secondly who would want to listen to it?

What OGRE and Campbell have managed to achieve here is capture the atmosphere of the original, but turn in something a little different. I won't say "better" because I'll be lynched by diehard fans, but I was never a huge fan of the original score in the first place.

The score contains 31 tracks (1 hr, 41 min, 53 sec). It's an interesting experiment and for the most part works incredibly well. The only slight problem is the audience for such a project will be incredibly small. Diehard fans will probably ignore it ("How dare they rework a flawless work of art"), whilst those who have never heard the original probably won't be that interested in a retro sounding modern release.

It's a beautiful curiosity, nothing more.
