Varèse Sarabande release a 2-disc set of the second and third season of Penny Dreadful. The album features original music composed by Abel Korzienowski. The show features some of literature’s most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. Penny Dreadful is a frightening psychological thriller that weaves together these classic horror origin stories into a new adult drama... Following on from his work on the first season, Abel Korzienowski delivers another 48 tracks (2 hr, 23 min, 27 sec) on this double CD representing music for the second and third season of Penny Dreadful. This is an album of subtle beauty which just gets better the more times you listen to it. 'Memento Mori' reminded me of Wojciech Kilar's score for Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992); 'Rejection' is so close to Ryuichi Sakamoto's main theme from The Sheltering Sky, that it surely has to be a loving homage. Other highlights include 'Revelation'; and 'House of the Night Creatures'. It's a collection crammed full of beautiful, epic themes and more subtle set pieces. In fact the only track I didn't enjoy was the opening off-key vocal track 'The Unquiet Grave'. Once again Korzienowski delivers a beautifully crafted work of art. 10 Darren Rea Buy this item online
