MovieScore Media release Simon Kölle’s score for Ave Mater. The movie follows the investigation of a mysterious cult whose activities create panic in the Swedish city of Gothenburg. There's a dark and powerful underscore that reflects on both the uneasy alliance between the investigator and a former reverend as well as the mystic rituals behind the murders... On the first listen, I had a hard time believing that this was the score to just one movie. Simon Kölle manages to deliver so many themes and set pieces here, that there's something for just about every taste. However, this plus point can also be seen as its negative aspect too. With so many varied styles the end result is a little bit of this and a little bit of that, never settling down and asserting itself with one clear personality. While this maybe refreshing to some it will no doubt be distracting to others. The album contains 20 tracks (53 min, 31 sec) and on balance I really enjoyed it. It's not your usual horror score and from time to time dips its toe into the genre of Classical music. Whether you love or loathe this score, one thing you can't get away from is the fact that Kölle delivers plenty of variety. 7 Darren Rea Buy this item online
