MovieScore Media releases Christopher Wong’s score for Victor Vu’s Sword of the Assassin, Vietnam's first Wuxia-style film, featuring martial arts scenes reminiscent of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon placed amongst lush cinematography of beautiful Vietnamese landscape. The film tells the story of Nguyen Vu, the the sole survivor of his family who got executed by the empress of Vietnam. Upon discovering that his family may have been framed for crimes they did not commit, he sets out to deliver swift justice and clear his family name. Wong’s score entertains with heroic orchestral anthems fused with the occasional favour of Vietnamese instrumentation... Christopher Wong delivers an impressive score for Sword of the Assassin. The album contains 18 tracks (1 hr, 02 min, 29 sec) and incorporates a wider range of themes and styles than I was expecting. In places I was reminded of John Williams's output in the '80s ('Nightmare' being the most notable example), with other highlights including 'Infiltration'; 'A Story Untold'; 'Recovery'; 'Sacrificed Love'; and 'The Pen and the Sword'. If subtle, yet memorable scores are your thing, you'll find much to enjoy here. 8 Darren Rea Buy this item online
