Lakeshore Records release Jeff Russo's score for Legion on CD and digital album, with a vinyl version planned for release later in 2017. The TV series is based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, and follows David Haller – a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalised once again, David must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees are the result of him being a mutant... There's a lot about Jeff Russo's score for Legion to love. The album contains 20 tracks (1 hr, 14 min, 54 sec) and incorporates so many vibes from so many genres and modern time periods that, technically, it's pretty flawless. However, before we get too carried away... I listened to this album numerous times over several weeks and felt I was no closer to knowing it on the last listen as I was on the first. It's interesting enough, but there's nothing of real substance here. Tracks like the opening 'Young David' start promising, but never really go anywhere. Meanwhile, tracks like 'Run' just regurgitates the same cliched chase music you've heard a million times before. 'Legion Main Title' is a little lifeless for such an important piece. Sadly, it's another album that's best heard in the medium it was originally composed for. It's varied and interesting, but it didn't seem to gel together well as an album. 6 Darren Rea Buy this item online
